After the Diet currently administers two professional listserves:  Neuroendolist, and Help the Helpers List

  Neuroendolist

Our "Neuroendolist" is an interdisciplinary listserve that discusses neuroendocrinology, stress, nutrition, and the interrelationships of these topics.  In addition to research-based discussion of these topics, participants can also market related products, services, and programs.

Topics being discussed include but are not limited to:  Axis I disorders such as bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, and depression; personality and illness; medical diagnoses with nutrition and stress-influenced components, such as polycystic ovary syndrome, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine headache, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and weight management; complementary therapies for these diagnoses; how practitioners can more effectively work together for the good of their patients.

Sample topics have included:

Help for Helpers Listserve

This is an additional listserve that will run separately from Neuroendolist.  It will NOT replace Neuroendolist.

Over the years of writing about eating disorders, I have received e-mails from colleagues asking for help with their own eating issues.  It's always an embarrassing issue for the person asking for help, because there is an assumption that having a degree in nutrition or counseling means one shouldn't be "weak" enough to have problems with food.  That is absolutely not true!  Unfortunately, the fear of losing credibility precludes many of our colleagues from asking for help, or talking about their struggles, which keeps them trapped in a life that provides them with less than they deserve.

This listserve was designed to be a place for these professionals to connect and support each other in an anonymous fashion.

Colleagues who are interested in such a listserve can do the following:

1.    Decide which e-mail address you would like to use as your username.  Some individuals are fine with being identified, others would prefer to remain anonymous.  If you would like to remain anonymous, then you will need to create a secondary AOL account or a free account with a service provider such as hotmail.com, yahoo.com, or juno.com that maintains your anonymity.

2.    Write me, without signing your name (if you wish to keep it anonymous from me as well), asking to join this listserve.  The e-mail address from which you contact me  asking to be added to the list is the one that will identify you on the listserve.

3.    This is absolutely NOT a counseling or supervision service provided by me.  This service should not even be considered as a substitute for professional counseling or supervision.  It is a safe place to support each other in a positive, constructive fashion.  I am only facilitating the process and the server space for the conversation, my personal contributions will be minimal and administrative in nature.

4.  My contact address for expressing interest is helpforhelpers@afterthediet.com.

Please share this information in venues where you think there may be interested parties.
